Japan Stands for Creation of a Modern “Silk Road” from the Pacific to Europe

Japan is going to participate in port infrastructure development on the coast of the Caspian Sea and other transport projects in Eurasia, claimed Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso.

In his opinion, Eurasian infrastructure should be developed in two directions – vertical and horizontal.

“The vertical line is “South-North” freight transportation route, i.e. from Central Asia to the Arabian Sea via Afghanistan. Here we suggest creation of railway and road infrastructure,” – there are such words in the speech of Mr Aso, the text of which has been distributed by Japanese embassy in the RF.

The Japanese Prime Minister added that the horizontal line is “East-West” transport corridor.

“This is the route from Central Asia to Europe via the Caucasus. Here we offer to develop port infrastructure on the coast of the Caspian Sea,” he noted.

On the whole, in the opinion of Mr Aso it is possible to create a route for people, goods, and money through transportation via the whole Eurasia – from the Pacific to Europe.

”All this may be called a modern version of the Silk Road,” emphasized he.

The Prime Minister of Japan considers that the development of the region will make for global economic recovery, reports Interfax.

“China, India, and Russia are important partners,” he said.
